2024: More Polling Supports Haley's Surge In The GOP Presidential Primary

US

MNI noted yesterday that former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley (R) has moved into contention for the Republican presidential nomination, following a raft of positive polling and tentative support from major GOP donors.

  • That trend continues with more polling suggesting that Haley may perform favourably to former President Donald Trump in a 2024 matchup with President Biden.
  • A Marquette Law School survey, released late yesterday, finds, “Nikki Haley leading Biden 55% to 45% among registered voters. Former President Trump leads Biden 52% to 48% in the same category, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis holds a 51% to 49% advantage,” noting, “Haley’s strength with Republicans combined with an ability to attract more Democratic voters than Trump or DeSantis accounts for her stronger overall support against Biden.”
  • Semafor reports: “She’s begun to reel in Tim Scott donors, and if she can ride a solid Iowa performance to a breakout in the Granite State, she could have a direct shot at Trump.”
  • Axios reports: “If Haley can outperform expectations in Iowa, where a recent poll showed she's tied with DeSantis for second, she'd be well-positioned to make a powerful statement in the New Hampshire primary eight days later… Next up on the calendar would be South Carolina — where Haley was twice elected governor.”
