A$ Down As Risk Sentiment Deteriorates

Aussie is broadly weaker during APAC trading today as risk appetite has deteriorated driving equities sharply lower. AUDUSD is down another 0.1% to 0.6752 after falling 0.8% yesterday. The pair reached a high of 0.6771 earlier. The USD index is flat after rising strongly on Tuesday.

  • AUDNZD is down 0.2% to 1.0795, close to the intraday low, after a high of 1.0828 before HK/China equities opened. AUDJPY is down 0.1% to 95.92. AUDEUR is 0.2% lower at 0.6166 and AUDGBP -0.2% to 0.5347.
  • Equities are generally weaker with the ASX down 1% and the Hang Seng -1%. The S&P emini is steady. Oil prices are slightly higher with WTI at $70.43/bbl. Copper is 0.3% lower but iron ore is up strongly to around $144/t.
  • Later the Fed’s Barkin speaks on the economic outlook and the December 13 meeting minutes are published. December US ISM data and November JOLTS job openings as well as German unemployment are also released.
