BOND SUMMARY
BOND SUMMARY: A fairly unvolatile start to the week as markets look ahead to
some big events later this week.
- The ECB meeting on Thursday and the EU Summit on Friday and Saturday will be
in focus. Although not a lot is expected in terms of new policy, the ECB's tone
will be watched closely for any hint on how they are viewing the recovery so
far. The EU Summit is likely to be crucial and there is hope that the "Next
Generation EU" plan providing funding for Covid-hit countries will be agreed.
- In the UK, it is a heavy data week with the highlight monthly GDP for May
tomorrow. The OBR also releases its updated Covid-19 scenarios tomorrow and the
OBR will announce an updated fiscal remit covering the period Sep-Nov on Thurs.
- The US also has a heavy data week with industrial production, retail sales and
housing data for June as well as initial and continuing claims which will be
watched for Covid impacts. Individual state Covid case data is also likely to
dictate risk appetite.
- TY1 futures are up 0-2 today at 139-09 with Bund futures down -0.19 at 176.44
and Gilt futures down -0.10 at 137.78.
