US DATA PREVIEW
US DATA PREVIEW: Analysts vary in expectations for how soft retail sales will
be, with a median forecast of retail at +0.1% and retail ex. auto at +0.5%.
However, due to the uncertainty of Harvey's net effect, the range of forecasts
for retail sales falls between -0.3% and +0.7%. Auto sales, slipping to its
lowest level in three years, are expected to be the biggest drag to retail.
However, hurricane damage is expected to propel auto sales in coming months.
Analysts expect surging gas prices due to Harvey to boost the gasoline station
sales component to help offset the auto drag and lift retail sales ex. auto.
