ANC To Decide On Cabinet Reshuffle Within Two Weeks

SOUTH AFRICA

The African National Congress said that it will clarify within two weeks whether David Mabuza will remain South Africa's Deputy President despite losing deputy leadership of the ruling party to Paul Mashatile.

  • During the 55th elective conference, Mabuza declined a nomination from the floor, which allowed Mashatile to defeat Ronald Lamola and Oscar Mabuyane in the contest for deputy leadership.
  • ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula confirmed that the decision will be taken within the next couple of weeks while speaking to reporters as the ruling party was finishing the second and final stage of the conference.
  • At risk of losing Cabinet posts are five ministers who failed to make it onto the ANC's National Executive Committee.
  • "We are seized with these matters [potential Cabinet reshuffle. In the next two weeks, not five years, we will be able to give you an answer," Mbalula said.
