US DATA REACT: And Amherst Pierpont's Stephen Stanley said on today's non-mfrg
ISM that the "business activity (production) and new orders components both
increased by several points, easily exceeding the 60 mark. Employment was not
quite as strong, "only" rising by half a point to 56.8. As noted above, the
bigger moves came in supply chain variables. The supplier deliveries measure
surged from 50.5 to 58.0, the highest reading since 2005 (i.e. in the aftermath
of Hurricane Katrina). Meanwhile, backlogs rose and the inventories gauge
declined to 51.5, a 6-month low. Finally, the prices index jumped by over 8
points to 66.3, the highest reading since February 2012."
- He adds that "we are now three for three this week, in terms of indicators for
September reaching a more than 10-year high. The ISM manufacturing gauge reached
its best level since 2004, while unit auto sales and the ISM non-manufacturing
index both jumped to the highest levels since 2005."
