ARA Coal Stocks At Over Two-Year Low

Coal inventories at the four key ARA terminals stood last at 4.49mn tons, the lowest level since late April 2022, terminal data cited by Montel showed.

  • Stocks declined by around 3%, or 0.14mn tons, last week, the data showed.
  • Low demand from the power sector amid high renewables output and low margins are weighing on coal imports into the region.
  • Total European thermal coal imports declined by 60% year on year to 10.5mn tons in the first half of this year, Kpler vessel-tracking data showed previously.
  • ARA coal imports, however, are expected to rise slightly on the month to 2.4mn tons, up from 2.1mn tons in June, DBX estimates showed.
