Arctic LNG 2 Hampered by Chinese Engineering Firm Pullout

LNG

Chinese engineering firm Wison New Energies will discontinue all its ongoing projects in Russia and will indefinitely stop taking any new Russian business, according to Reuters.

  • The move will impact the sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project by Russia’s Novatek.
  • Novatek had previously planned to build a gas turbine power station for the LNG plant using Wison’s equipment.
  • Novatek was due to begin deliveries in Q1 after production began in December, although western sanctions and a shortage of ice breaker tankers have prevented this.
  • Wison’s announcement follows Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Beijing in May, where he met with Xi Jinping and pledged a “new era” of partnership.
