Ardern's Labour Recover To Strong Position In Poll After August Dip

NEW ZEALAND

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's centre-left Labour Party has extended its commanding lead at the top of the latest Roy Morgan opinion poll. The main opposition centre-right National Party continues to see its support decline, and risks being overtaken by the libertarian ACT party.

  • Roy Morgan poll: Labour: 45.5% (+6), National: 23% (-2), ACT: 16% (+3), Green: 9.5% (-2.5), Māori: 2.0% (-0.5), NZF: 1.5% (-1). +/- vs. August 2021. Fieldwork: September 2021. Sample Size: 940
  • Comes as Ardern confirms that New Zealand's 'zero COVID' strategy is set to be phased out as more of the population gets vaccinated. NZ remains a DM laggard in terms of the proportion of its population vaccinated, but as the country approaches 50% having had two doses, the gov't is beginning to slowly unwind lockdown restrictions in Auckland.
