Argentina’s Oil Production Is Stagnating: Kpler

OIL

Argentina's expected oil production growth has not progressed despite post-pandemic annual increases of 10-12% according to Kpler.

  • Production levels have remained around 620kbpd this year, showing minimal growth in supply amid modest upticks in Argentinian rig counts and development drilling.
  • Upstream activity remains only half of the peak of Vaca Muerta drilling in 2014-2015 with only 56 operational rigs in 2023 compared to the peak of over 100 rigs in 2014-2015.
  • Light sweet Medanito is trading at its highest level against ICE Brent since September 2022, at a discount of 4.5$/bbl to ICE Brent. Exports have decreased to 100kbpd, which is around 40% lower than the export volume in early 2023.
