ASIA FX: Very Quiet in North East Asia Markets, China Returns Tomorrow

ASIA FX

North East Asian currency markets have been very quiet today, with China, South Korea and Taiwan all out for holidays. USD/CNH is little changed, last near 7.0970. China markets return tomorrow after a 4 day break for the mid-autumn festival. Focus is likely to rest on the weekend data outcomes, which showed generally softer August activity prints and sharper house price falls.

  • South Korean markets are out until Thursday. The 1 month USD/KRW NDF is biased lower, albeit in lighter liquidity conditions. We were last near 1314, around 0.3% stronger in won terms. For reference Friday's onshore spot close was 1333.55.
