Asst Gov Pita Says Key Rate Is Close To Neutral

BoT Assistant Governor Piti Disyatat plays down the potential for interest-rate adjustments to solve Thailand's household debt, pointing to debt restructuring as a potential way to address the issue, after the MPC left rates unchanged in defiance of repeated calls from PM Srettha Thavisin and his government.

  • Piti said that the key interest rates is currently close to the policy-neutral level, adding that the economic outlook for 2024 and 2025 does not affect the estimates of the neutral rate. The official guided that the key rate may not be adjusted if GDP growth recovery persists, with economic outlook being the major factor in policy decisions.
