Atlantic Hurricanes Limited in June

An above average hurricane season is expected in the Atlantic this year but prior season data indicates June is not a very active month, with most occurring instead in Aug-Oct.

  • Atlantic hurricanes form in June only about once every 5 years according to analysis by hurricane specialist Michael Lowry.
  • The last hurricane anywhere in the Atlantic in June was Chris in 2012. Before that, it was Alex in 2010 and then Allison way back in 1995.
  • There are currently no hurricanes forecast over the next 7-days according to NOAA.
