FOREX: AUD on top as RBA disappoints doves
-AUD is higher against all others in G10 as the Reserve Bank of Australia held
rates unchanged overnight, but tilted closer to a neutral view on policy,
disappointing some who had seen the bank leaning more dovishly. AUD/USD rallied
firmly through $0.7250 in the initial react, printing up at $0.7265 before
pulling back slightly ahead of the NY crossover.
-At the other end of the scale, SEK is the poorest performer for the second
consecutive session, prompting USD/SEK to touch the best levels since Dec12 and
a break above Sek9.1625 would be the highest since early November. The moves
follow this morning's PMI numbers for January from across Europe, which
disappointing in Sweden, UK, Italy and Germany. Particular weakness in the UK
(staffing levels declined for the first time since December 2012, with business
activity slowing due to political uncertainty) send GBP lower, prompting a
$1.3013 print in GBP/USD.
-Focus turns to US services and composite PMI, January ISM non-manufacturing PMI
and the next wave of earnings reports from the US, most notably Walt Disney Co.
