AUSSIE
AUSSIE: AUD/USD jumps after strong retail sales data. The November print posted
the biggest monthly gain since June 2012 due to rise in iPhone X and
pre-Christmas sales. The rise signals a recovery in household consumption in the
fourth quarter of 2017 but it may be too early to conclude that the gains would
sustain this year. Data published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics
Thursday show retail sales rose 1.2% m/m in November, the largest monthly gain
since a 1.3% rise in June 2012. The increase resulted in trend retail sales
turning to positive again, rising 0.1% m/m in November.
- AUD/USD last up 32 pips at 0.7874, MNI sources note some stops taken out at
0.7870 but offers remain at around 0.7880.
