AUSSIE: AUD/USD trades virtually unchanged at $0.7169, after falling 33 pips
Wednesday. In Asia-Pac hours yesterday, AUD found itself under modest pressure
from a weak Westpac consumer confidence print, which saw the index slip into
pessimistic territory for the first time since Nov 2017. AUD came under further
pressure during the European morning as Chinese Premier Li flagged the need for
China to prepare for economic difficulties.
- Australian home loans fell 0.9% in November against forecasts of a 1.5%
decline, but no evident implications for price action have been noted upon the
release.
- A close below the 100-DMA at $0.7172 allowed bears to gain some momentum and
target yesterday's low at $0.7162, followed by the Jan 10/Jan 9 low at
$0.7146/35. On the topside, bulls look for a break above the 50-DMA/55-DMA at
$0.7183/88 before trying to jump back above the $0.7200 figure.
