August Trade Balance Due

CHILE
  • Chile is expected to report an August trade surplus of $1 Billion today wider than the USD814mn surplus in July. This should give evidence that monthly activity and domestic demand are recovering but on a slow path and still below levels last year. Copper exports (prior USD3.36bn) will be released along with the trade balance figures. August inflation data will be reported on Friday.
  • Separately, an earthquake of 6.5 magnitude jolted near the coast of Central Chile on Wednesday. The Chilean Navy's Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service ruled out the possibility of a tsunami hitting Chile's coast and the national emergency office did not report any damages or injuries.
