Another key focus for June will be on trade war developments. The month began
with a shift from combative rhetoric from the US administration to an actual
increase in tariffs. The weeks ahead could bring retaliation in a tit-for-tat
escalation that could also see US-China trade relations become the focus when
the US announces new details on proposed tariffs and investment curbs. It points
to a "risk off" environment that would favour the JPY and the USD, and challenge
trade-sensitive currencies such as the AUD.
