Azerbaijan Gas Exports to Bulgaria Rise to 1.5bcm in 2024

Natural gas exports from Azerbaijan to Bulgaria are expected to rise to 1.5bcm by the end of the year according to President Ilham Aliyev.

  • Exports will increase from 1.25bcm in 2023 and 0.6bcm in 2022, Aliyev added at a joint news conference with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev.
  • Azerbaijan will supply about 50% of Bulgaria’s annual natural gas requirements this year.
  • Azerbaijan has previously stated plans to increase gas exports to Europe to 20bcm by 2027 and currently supplies European buyers in Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Serbia.
  • Azerbaijan gas supplies to Europe rose 10.3% y/y to 3.2bcm in Q1 2024.
