Azerbaijan Plans to Raise Gas Exports to Europe to 14 Bcf by 2026

NATGAS

Azerbaijan plans to raise gas exports to Europe to 14 Bcf/y in 2025, according to Interfax Azerbaijan.

  • The increase in flows would be achieved by a rise in production and through expansion of three transit pipelines comprising the southern gas corridor, linking Baku with Greece and Italy via Turkey.
  • The long-term ambition to export 20 Bcf/y to Europe will depend on the region’s demand and its willingness to invest in new gas infrastructure.
  • Azerbaijan currently has export contracts with six European countries: Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia.
  • In April 2023, several European countries agreed on a project called the “Solidarity Ring,” aimed at boosting flows from the Caspian through the southern gas corridor by using internal European gas interconnectors.
