Biden Signs Bill Averting Railroad Shutdown

WHITE HOUSE

US President Joe Biden has signed H.J.Res.100, averting an economically damaging strike on the US railroad network. Says that a strike would have been an "economic catastrophe" and that, "I know this was a tough vote for members of both parties. It was a tough vote for me, but it was the right thing to do."

  • The bill does not include stipulations on sick pay for railroad workers, despite some bipartisan support. Biden states that the fight for paid sick leave "isn't over".
  • Biden says that, "My goal is to get paid sick leave not just for rail workers but every worker in America".
  • Biden on gas prices: "For months, you couldn't look anywhere without seeing headlines screaming 'gas prices at the pump are up,' but look folks, gas prices are down."
