BioNTech CEO: We Can Likely Start Delivering COVID Vaccine In Early Jan

Reuters reporting that the CEO of BioNTech which, in partnership with Pfizer, was the first Western pharma firm to announce a successful COVID-19 vaccine (pending approval), has said the firm will likely be ready to begin shipments of the vaccine from early January 2021.

  • Comes hours after Moderna's announcement that they also have a candidate vaccine with a 94.5% efficacy rate, compared to 90% efficacy for the BioNTech/Pfizer jab.
  • The coming days and weeks are likely to see a number of announcements of vaccines coming to fruition, and as such the reaction to each new one could prove more and more muted.
  • Attention likely to turn to issues such as distribution, storage, access to the vaccine, how long it gives individuals immunity to the virus, and if those vaccinated can still be carriers of the virus.
