Boston's Collins Continues To See FOMC "At Or Near" Hold

WSJ reporting Boston Fed Pres Collins saying in an interview conducted Monday "My read of the data that we have so far is that we are near or perhaps at a sufficiently restrictive level of monetary policy to hold for some time."

  • That was before today's CPI data, and it's unlikely she's changed her mind as a result. It's her first comment on monetary policy since late May - at which time she also appeared to favour an end to tightening soon ("I believe we may be at, or near, the point where monetary policy can pause raising interest rates.")
  • She's on the dovish end of the FOMC Hawk-Dove spectrum but not a voter in 2023 or 2024, and shouldn't move the needle too much.
