BoT Governor Flags Upside Risks To Inflation Outlook

Bloomberg runs comments from Bank of Thailand Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, who warned that rising global energy costs and the impact of El Nino on food prices pose upside risks to Thailand's inflation outlook, adding that the central bank's monetary policy framework is outlook dependent.

  • Sethaput said that the BoT's chief concern now is fiscal stability amid the expected stimulus measures that will be rolled out by the new government. He argued that targeted measures would be more appropriate and said that the government should prioritise investment over consumption.
