BRAZIL: BCB Focus Survey Expected At 1225BST

  • The BCB will publish its weekly Focus survey at 1225BST(0725ET), with attention on analyst Selic rate expectations which rose by another 25bp last week. Later today, vehicle association Anfavea will hold a press conference to discuss September data on vehicle production, domestic sales and exports at 1500BST(1000ET). Later this week, focus will turn to IPCA inflation data for September on Wednesday, followed by August retail sales on Thursday.
  • Meanwhile, President Lula will have a meeting with ministers and government leaders in congress at 1300BST(0800ET), followed by a meeting with Chief of Staff Rui Costa, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira and Mines and Energy Minister Alexandre Silveira at 1900BST(1400ET).
  • In other news, candidates backed by Jair Bolsonaro won four of the country’s 27 state capitals in municipal elections on Sunday, while candidates supported by Lula won in two capitals, including Rio de Janeiro. Bolsonaro supports a further 14 candidates who are competing in a second-round vote on Oct 27 in cities where no candidate received more than 50% of the votes yesterday, while candidates supported by Lula will compete in four. So far, most winners lean centre-right.
