BRAZIL: Supreme Court Justice Under Fire Amid Leaked Messages

  • Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes pushed back against allegations of impropriety on Wednesday after the publication of leaked messages fuelled the latest effort from allies of former President Jair Bolsonaro to impeach him. Folha de S.Paulo newspaper reported Tuesday that Moraes allegedly ordered Brazil’s top electoral court to produce reports that supported his own investigations into Bolsonaro supporters during the country’s 2022 presidential election.
  • On Thursday, Central Bank Governor Campos Neto will meet with Executive Secretary of the Planning and Budget Ministry in Brasilia. Separately, the Treasury will auction fixed-rate LTN local notes due 2025, 2026, 2028 and 2030; fixed-rate NTN-F local notes due 2031 and 2035.
  • Restrictions on Brazil’s chicken exports to China have been dropped for all regions except for the southern state Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil’s Agriculture Ministry said in a statement.
