Brazil’s LNG Competitiveness Narrows: Platts


Brazil’s LNG competitiveness vs Europe and the Med has narrowed as Brazil’s premium weakens, Platts said.

  • A DES cargo into Brazil was assessed at a 2.2 cents/MMBtu discount against DES NWE, the narrowest since the assessment began Feb. 1.
  • While demand for cargoes from Brazil was head to be increasing, this is being outpaced by bids from NWE looking to pull cargoes.
  • However, the market is eyeing an uptick in demand from LATAM and if Brazil’s reservoir levels are lower than expected, LNG demand could accelerate in the coming months, pulling cargoes to South America.
