FED BEIGE BOOK: 11 districts reported "modest to moderate" econ growth
since the last Beige Book, while the Dallas district reported "a robust
increase," a mostly positive reading for the Fed to ponder at their next
meeting. Overall, there was an optimistic view about 2018 across the US.
-Employment grew at a "modest" pace, but still with labor market
tightness and difficulty finding qualified workers. Most reported
wages increased at a "modest" pace, while some reported firms expect
wages to go higher.
-Price growth remained "modest to moderate", though Chicago noted only a
slight price gain, while San Francisco noted price infl was down. Some
reported the ability to increase selling prices.
-Home sales are still held back by low inventory, while prices continue
to rise. Nonresidential activity still seeing slight growth.
-Non-auto retail sales expanded in recent month, with holiday sales
stronger than expected. Auto sales, however, were mixed.
