CANADA: USDCAD Eyes Sub-1.3600 With CAD Outperformance

CANADA
  • CAD sits top of the G10 pack in reversal of yesterday’s underperformance following softer than expected core CPI readings.
  • USDCAD has touched a new recent low of 1.3600 having bottomed out yesterday at 1.3605 just before CPI saw a relatively constrained 20-30 pip lift.
  • It remains to be seen whether the round 1.36 has any sway whilst a key support is nearby at 1.3589 (Jul 11 low), with clearance required to strengthen the recent bear theme before 1.3547 (Apr 9 low).
  • Today’s local risk events come from input cost data at 0830ET and with focus on headlines concerning rail strike talks ahead of lock outs that can otherwise start 0001 Toronto time on Thursday.
  • On the US leg of course, NFP preliminary benchmark revisions and FOMC minutes.
  • Little by way of nearby option expiry for today’s cut although there is a cumulative $870m between 1.3710-1.3735.
