CANADA: USDCAD Tilts Oversold For First Time Since December

CANADA
  • Belated USD weakness after (potentially) large downward annual benchmark revisions to payrolls has seen USDCAD hit 1.3576 in a firm push through a key support at 1.3589 (Jul 11 low).
  • It helps bolster the recent bear theme with next support seen at 1.3547 (Apr 9 low).
  • It also leaves the pair in minor oversold territory for the first time since December, an impressive turnaround from the overbought conditions of late July (both on a 14-day RSI basis).
  • Rail strike talks going down to the wire doesn't appear to be hindering the loonie today, whilst CAD is still close to top performer across the G10 FX (just lagging CHF and GBP) despite the USD giving up earlier modest gains, in payback after yesterday's underperformance on soft CAD core CPI readings.
