Chevron Workers To Delay Strike Action to Friday

LNG

Workers at Chevron's Wheatstone and Gorgon LNG facilities in Australia have delayed industrial action until Friday morning from Thursday originally scheduled, according to two union representatives.

  • Chevron confirmed the pause in an emailed statement minutes later and said unions had advised industrial action would be delayed until 6.00am local time on Friday. Industrial action had been scheduled to begin at 1.00am local time.
  • European gas markets eased back following the news, potentially indicating mediation talks between unions and Chevron are nearing a deal which is needed in order to avert strike action.
  • Unions and Chevron have been participating in mediation talks hosted by the Fair Work Commission since Monday.
