China Bound Oil Tankers Hit 2-Year Low: Bloomberg

FREIGHT

The number of supertankers headed for China dropped to the lowest in almost two years, adding to recent concerns about demand in the largest oil importer during H2, Bloomberg said.

  • Only 86 supertankers are indicating China as their next destination in the next three months, down five on the week and the lowest since August 2022.
  • The outlook for Chinese demand in H2 is showing signs of softness, potentially providing headwinds for crude prices.
  • Concerns include slower-than-expected returns of seasonal maintenance, softer purchases from key suppliers in July, and a potential drop-off in monthly volumes.
