China Jet Fuel Consumption See up 13% on Year in July and Aug: OilChem

Continued growth in air travel during peak summer is set to lift China’s jet fuel consumption by around 13.14% in July and August combined compared to 2023, OilChem said.

  • The 2024 air travel summer peak started July 1 and will end Aug. 31, with rising air passenger demand driving up jet fuel consumption.
  • Total civilian air traffic during the summer peak is expected to reach 133m passengers, up 5% on 2023.
  • This is seen as driving up jet fuel demand in China to 7.59m mt across July and August.
  • Jet fuel is finding support globally amid recovering air passenger demand.
  • However, it current demand remains below its pre-pandemic forecasted levels. This is due to both travel disruption during the pandemic, coupled with greater fuel efficiency in modern aircraft.
