China LNG Imports Rose 3.4% y/y in May

China imports of LNG rose 3.4% y/y in May while January to May imports were up 18.1%, according to General Administration of Customs data.

  • Pipeline imports also rose 12.7% y/y to 4.77m tons with year to date imports rising 16.5% to 21.85m tons.
  • China's LNG imports are expected to grow by 12% in 2024, according to UBS cited by Reuters, amid increased industrial sector consumption and with rising sales of trucks powered by LNG boosting consumption.
