China Tells Ride-hailing Operators to Improve  Compliance: Times

China's Ministry of Transportation and several other ministries summoned 11 top ride-hailing operators, including Didi and Meituan, for a meeting on Thursday and told them to improve rule compliance and operations, including protecting passengers' data, observing fair competition, and ensuring safety, the Securities Times reported. The regulators said some companies engaged in illegal activities such as hiring unqualified drivers and disorderly expansion, the newspaper said. However, the regulators recognized the role of taxi-hailing services, including creating jobs, and asked local authorities to simplify the registration services for qualified taxi operators, said the newspaper.
