CHINA: Chinese official Liu He, head of the Leading Group for Financial and
Economic Affairs within the CPC, will be delivering a speech at the World
Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday. His interaction with the U.S. team, led by
U.S. President Donald Trump and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, could indicate
the direction of Sino-U.S. trade.
- China and the U.S. are not currently communicating, as the Trump
administration is undecided on what measures to take to solve trade problems:
South China Morning Post stated, citing former assistant U.S. trade
representative Timothy Stratford.
- China's Ministry of Commerce, on Tuesday, expressed "strong discontent"
regarding the U.S. announcement to impose tariffs on foreign solar panels, as
well as penalties and import quotas on imported washing machines. 
- The ministry said the U.S.'s "abuse of trade remedy measures" deteriorates the
global trade environment for these products.
