CNB's Zamrazilova To Decide Between 25bp & 50bp Cut Next Week

CZECHIA
  • CNB Deputy Governor Eva Zamrazilova told Reuters that she will decide between a 25bp and a 50bp rate cut at a policy meeting next week. She noted that a stronger CZK exchange rate is an argument in favour of a bigger move, while inflationary pressures in the services sector support a smaller move. According to Zamrazilova, further monetary easing after June is likely, but she refused to provide her estimate of the most likely level of rates at the end of this year.
  • Seznam Zpravy reported that STAN will propose both MEP Danuse Nerudova and Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Sikela for the position of the next Czech European Commissioner. The Pirate Party had earlier proposed outgoing MEP Marcel Kolaja for the position. The government will decide between these three candidates.
  • Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky makes a visit to Bratislava today a few months after the Czech cabinet called off a planned meeting with Slovak counterparts due to tensions over foreign policy. Lipavsky will meet with his local counterpart Juraj Blanar and with President Petr Pellegrini.
  • Finance Minister Zbynek Stanjura and Czech Fiscal Council (fiscal watchdog) head Mojmir Hampl will speak at a conference this morning on reforming the state administration.
