COLOMBIA: Bonilla Indicates Diesel Price Rise, BanRep Taboada to Speak

  • Reports from Blu Radio indicated that Finance Minister Ricardo Bonilla has insisted the government will have to raise diesel prices, even without reaching an agreement with the nation’s truckers. The price is expected to rise by 3,000 pesos a gallon this year and another 3,000 pesos next year. Bonilla indicates that the diesel subsidy is ending due to fiscal needs.
  • Separately, central bank Co-Director Bibiana Taboada will participate in a webinar oon Wednesday. The webinar is expected to discuss monetary policy challenges, and has been organised by Banco Itaú.
  • There are no data releases for Colombia this week, which should place the focus on the capital markets convention organized by Asobancaria, which will be held in Cartagena between Thursday and Friday. Notable participants include BanRep Governor Leonardo Villar, and Finance Minister, Ricardo Bonilla.
