Constitutional Tribunal Rules That Polish Constitution Trumps Some EU Laws

  • Poland's top court ruled that today that the country's constitution overrides some EU laws, increasing the divergence between Poland and the 27-nation bloc and therefore endangers the government's access to the 36bn EUR in pandemic aid (€12.1 billion is in loans and €23.9 billion is in grants).
  • The PLN is slightly unchanged following the update, currently trading at around 3.9550 against the USD, up 2 figures following Glapinski 'dovish' speech earlier.
