JAPAN: *correct*
- The latest weekly international security flow data revealed that Japanese
investors reverted to net purchases of foreign bonds in the most recent week
(Y1.0657tn), after breaking a 4-week streak of net purchases in the previous
week.
- However, it was the equity side of the ledger that garnered more interest,
with Japanese investors shedding a net Y3.6390tn worth of exposure in the most
recent week. This is comfortably the largest round of net selling on record, and
was only the 4th week of the calendar year which has seen net selling. The huge
net selling has pushed cumulative fiscal year to date flows of the measure into
negative territory.
- Foreign investors reversed last week's net selling of Japanese bonds, picking
up a net Y749.6bn in the most recent week.
- Foreigners also reverted to marginal (Y67.2bn) purchases of Japanese equities
in the most recent week, only the 4th round of weekly net purchases recorded
this fiscal year.
