Heatwaves across the East Med and domestic storage requirements have turned Croatia into the ‘premium hub’ in Europe for LNG cargoes, Platts said.
- This has pushed East Med LNG prices to their highest premium over NWE since March.
- Croatia’s imports have been relatively stable even as the rest of Europe’s have hit multi-year lows.
- Croatia’s imports of 206k mt in July were the highest since 2021.
- LNG imports into Croatia have exceeded domestic demand since 2022, allowing the country to be a key gas inflow source for the region.
- The East Med is also facing a supply risk for 2025 as the Russia-Ukraine gas transit deal is set to expire.
