CZECHIA: Parliament Decides On Postal Voting Bill

  • The Chamber of Deputies resumes the debate on a bill introducing postal voting for citizens living abroad. The bill has sparked controversy as it is believed to benefit parties from the ruling coalition. The debate is expected to wind up today and parliament will likely give a nod to the legislation after the vote at 12:00BST/13:00CEST.
  • A growing number of reports suggest that Trade and Industry Minister Jozef Sikela is edging ahead of Danuse Nerudova in the race to become the next Czech European Commissioner, even as both received nominations from the STAN party. Seznam Zpravy reporter Vaclav Dolejsi said that STAN have effectively "written off" Nerudova after she failed to deliver as many mandates in the European elections as expected by the party.
  • The countdown to the next CNB rate decision has started and it is a close call between a 25bp and 50bp cut after several policymakers (Michl, Zamrazilova, Frait, Holub) recently admitted that these are the options for next week.
