Dangote Refinery’s Diesel Quality Proves Divisive: Argus

OIL PRODUCTS

Nigeria’s Dangote group has defended the quality of diesel output from its 650k b/d refinery after the country’s downstream regulator said it contained much higher sulphur levels than imported product, Argus said.

  • Dangote said that the sulphur content of its diesel is now as low as 88 ppm. The downstream regulator had claimed that its diesel was between 650-1,200ppm.
  • Dangote said that it hopes to achieve 10ppm diesel production this week, in line with European specifications and lower than the 50ppm cap on WAF imports.
  • Dangote has thus far exported LSSR, naphtha, gasoil, and jet fuel, Vortexa and Kpler data shows.
  • Nigeria’s imports of jet fuel, naphtha, and fuel oil have declined since Dangote came online, down from 8.6k mt/d in 2024-to-date, compared to 10.9k mt/d in 2023.
