Duda Leads Delegation To NATO Summit, Kaczynski Doesn't Want To Become PM

  • President Andrzej Duda leads the Polish delegation to a NATO summit in Vilnius, which begins today. Ukrainian matters will be high on the agenda, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky set to join the meeting. Duda said that Warsaw would like Ukraine to get "as many guarantees as possible, (...) a clear perspective of joining NATO." In an interview for the German daily Bild, Duda said that Poland could join a hypothetical peace mission in Ukraine once it reaches a ceasefire agreement with Russia, if there is a decision that such a deal needs to be enforced by foreign troops.
  • Ruling Law and Justice party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski told Super Express that he does not want to be Prime Minister after the upcoming parliamentary elections and is looking to quit Cabinet after the polls. Kaczynski currently serves as the sole Deputy Prime Minister, following a resignation of all four previous Deputy Prime Ministers. His entry to the Cabinet has been perceived as a move intended to bolster Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki's position, defuse factional tensions and mobilise Cabinet members ahead of the elections.
