Economy Minister Contreras Continues EU Trip To Promote Investment in Peru

  • Economy and Finance Minister Alex Contreras will attend the CAF summit in Spain today. Contreras on Tuesday participated in various forums and meetings with the aim of promoting investments and creating closer ties of cooperation with European countries.
    • Contreras stated that "the first meeting in Spain was held today, with employers from the Spain-Peru Council Foundation, an entity that brings together the main Spanish companies with presence in our country, and we have seen strong interest from entrepreneurs to continue investing in Peru, highlighting its macroeconomic strengths and the opportunities it offers".
  • Mining Weekly has reported that Peru is clinging to its spot as the world's No. 2 copper producer and supplier, with a bounce in mining activity helping it stay just ahead of rival producer, Democratic Republic of Congo, this year. Peru has seen output of the red metal rise some 20% in the first half of 2023, government data show, though that's been tempered by red tape and flagging mining investment after a period of political turmoil and protest.
