Economy Minister Massa Scheduled To Meet With IMF

  • Minister Sergio Massa is scheduled to travel to Washington, D.C., to hold talks with International Monetary Fund, US government officials. As reported last week, the Argentine government intends to ask the IMF to increase the amount of its next disbursement to Argentina expected later this month, according to a senior government official.
  • Following the results of last week’s presidential primaries, the IMF confirmed this weekend that they met with both candidates Javier Milei and Patricia Bullrich to discuss their economic plans. During the virtual meeting with Milei, that lasted a little more than an hour, the presidential hopeful and members of his economic team assured IMF officials they had no intention of stopping payments to the multilateral organization nor defaulting on any of the country’s debts. As a reminder, Argentina’s first round of its general elections will be held on October 22.
  • It is worth noting that both Colombian and Argentine markets are shut due to public holidays.
