Egypt Eyes LNG Import Terminal

The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company is in talks with providers of FSRUs to secure a five-year contract, as the country plans to ramp up LNG imports during spring and summer to avoid energy supply shortages, sources told Bloomberg.

  • EGAS recently purchased at lease one shipment for delivery in the next month and is looking for several more, traders said.
  • The cargo is likely to be rerouted through an existing facility in Jordan, traders said, after the FSRU BW Singapore left Egypt’s Ain Sukhna import terminal in November after a charter deal ended.
  • Last June, Egypt signed a deal with Jordan to jointly use the existing floating LNG import facility in Aqaba, in case of emergency.
