Egypt Imports First LNG Cargo Since July

Egypt imported an LNG cargo into its Ain Sukha terminal on the Red Sea Nov. 3, according to Platts shipping data, amid continued scarcity of gas following lower Israeli pipeline flows.

  • Bloomberg had reported Nov. 3 that the Maran Gas Kalymnos LNG tanker was approaching the terminal. Later Nov. 3, it docked at the Gulf of Suez terminal and unloaded LNG and oil, Platts said.
  • Egypt seldom imports LNG amid domestic production and imports from Israeli gas fields. However, Israel’s prioritisation of domestic supply has led to power outages in Egypt over the last few weeks.
  • This is Egypt’s first import since a 60k mt LNG cargo was unloaded in July, Platts said.
