EMISSIONS: Dutch SDE++ Scheme Awarded €3.2bn To Carbon Capture Projects So Far

The Dutch Sustainable Energy Production and Climate Transition Incentive Scheme (SDE++) has so far awarded €3.2bn to new carbon capture project, with total grants for decarbonisation efforts at €16bn according to BNEF. 

  • The scheme is expected to cover around 5% of the Dutch carbon capture, utilisation and storage costs for a benchmark steel plant over the period of 15 years, BNEF estimates.
  • The Dutch Porthos carbon capture project has been allocated a maximum of subsidy of €2.1bn under the scheme in the first auction round in 2021.
  • Porthos plans to store around 2.5mn t/yr for 15 years.
