EMISSIONS: EUA Funds Positioning Turns More Bullish

Speculator positioning in EU ETS futures on the ICE exchange turned more bullish after four consecutive weeks of increasing net short positionings, the latest COT data as of 27 September showed.

  • Investment Funds net short positionings decreased by 7,057 to -16,229
  • Investment Firm net short positionings edged higher by 959 to -350,607.
  • Commercial Undertaking net long positionings decreased by 3,099 to +288,752 – highest since mid-December 2022.
  • EU ETS Dec24 allowances saw a weekly increase of around 4.8% last week with support from gains in natural gas prices and the 2023 allowances submissions deadline on 30 September.
